Distribution Center - Driver

General Description/Primary Purpose:

Transport trailers safely, accurately and timely to and from the stores, vendors, and/or 3rd party customers.

Description of duties and task essential job functions:

• Deliver merchandise via tractor and trailer(s) to stores. Return empty trailers and trailers loaded with returns to the Distribution Center or pick up backhauls from other vendors and deliver appropriately. Layover trips may be required.
• Prepare and maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) and Toys "R" Us (TRU) records. (e.g. driver logs via on-board system and/or paper logs, trip sheets, vehicle inspection reports.)
• Pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle and trailer(s) per DOT regulations and company policy.
• Operate equipment in compliance with all DOT and TRU regulations, as well as federal, state and local laws.
• Guest service. Address all inquiries and questions by store personnel, vendors and staff in a professional, friendly manner, and partner with the Department Manager to resolve problems.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

• Minimum of two (2) years driving experience with a tractor/trailer.
• Ability to read and understand the English language sufficiently in order to read DOT handbook, trip sheets, maps, driver log, road signage, and vehicle inspection reports.
• Basic English language writing skills necessary for the completion of written paperwork.
• Have valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Able to perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment independently or under the direction of a fleet mechanic.
• Double Certification within 90 days of hire, where applicable.
• Ability to learn and perform all essential functions accurately with minimal direct supervision within 6 weeks of hire.
